Features

Everything a real flight has

A whole planet to fly over, with the traffic, the weather and the light of the moment you choose.

The real air traffic around you

The aircraft and ships you meet are the real ones, where they are right now, a few seconds behind. You can even take off next to a VIP or military aircraft that is flying at this moment.

Any airport on Earth

Start on the runway, on final approach or at cruise altitude, at airports all over the world: their runways with markings, lights and PAPI, and the taxiways lit at night.

Live weather and real light

The weather at the airport right now, or any sky from clear to storm, fog and snow, with gusting wind and volumetric clouds. The sun and the night at the real hour of each place.

Physics that feel right

Several aircraft fly with JSBSim, the flight dynamics of FlightGear, with each one's own aerodynamics, engines and gear. The controls answer like a game, so a first flight is easy and a landing still has to be earned.

Keyboard, mouse or gamepad

Fly with what you have: the keyboard, the mouse or an Xbox or PlayStation pad. A copilot guides you through each step of the flight, and the autopilot can land on any runway.

From a laptop to a gaming PC

Two graphics modes: Free, light enough for any laptop, and HD, with 3D cities, soft shadows and cinematic light. The simulator picks the right one for your computer the first time.

The fleet

Ten aircraft, from a Cessna to an A380

Each one built piece by piece, with its cockpit and its instruments, from a light single-engine to the biggest airliner in the sky, a fighter and a glider.

How it works

From the browser to the runway in three steps

  1. Choose your aircraft

Turn it round in the hangar and look at its figures before you pick it.

  2. Choose where

An airport and its runway (lined up, on final or at cruise altitude), or a real aircraft flying right now, to fly beside it.

  3. Pick the hour and the sky, and take off

Dawn, midday or night, with the live weather or the one you prefer.

FAQ

What people ask before taking off

Is Open Flight World free?

Yes. It runs in your browser: there is nothing to install and you do not need an account.

What do I need to fly?

A recent browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) and a keyboard, a mouse or a gamepad. A computer with a graphics card can use the HD graphics; any other flies in Free.

Is the traffic real?

Yes. The aircraft and ships around you are the real ones, in their real positions, a few seconds behind.

Can I fly with a gamepad?

Yes: Xbox and PlayStation pads, and most others your browser recognises. Every function is within reach of the pad, with its own menu for what has no button.

Does it work on a phone?

It runs on phones and tablets with the Free graphics, but it is made for a computer: you fly it with a keyboard, a mouse or a gamepad.

Where do the world and the data come from?

The relief and the imagery cover the whole planet, and in HD the big cities are in photorealistic 3D. Every source and its licence are credited in the simulator's options.

The sky is open.

Pick an aircraft, choose a runway anywhere on Earth and take off. It takes seconds.
